Michael Riedel - Graphic as event
At the center of the exhibition, in addition to current works, is the "Signet Drawing" (1994-95), a spectacular early work by the Frankfurt-based artist, which can be seen for the first time in its entirety. In 2016 it was acquired by the Städel Museum Association e.V.
The collection of drawings with more than 1000 sheets, to which also not drawn drawings are to be counted, soon manifested the Riedelian approach to art: graphics as a self-satisfying work of art.
Riedel's production-aesthetic basic idea of ??the process is based on the conditions of ceaseless continuation possibilities and releases associations to the about coincidental publication "The Art of Society" by Niklas Luhmann, in which the collapse of the boundary between work and description of the work is formulated and announces a self-sufficient art production , It raises the provocative question of the role of the artist in the circle of reproductive intelligences and meandering information structures, which permeates Riedel's graphic work in a media-expansive manner.
