Social facades - A dialogue of the collections of the MMK and the DekaBank
The MMK Museum for Modern Art Frankfurt am Main and DekaBank have a long-standing partnership in the expansion of the museum collection and as a founding partner of the MMK 2. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of DekaBank, the MMK receives four major works from the bank's collection as a donation. This includes some large-scale installations by the artists Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset, Michael Beutler, Tue Greenfort and Martin Kippenberger.
In addition to its commitment to the MMK, DekaBank has built up its own top-class collection of contemporary art in the past 15 years, in which multilayered links to the collection of the MMK can be found. Numerous artists are represented in both collections with extensive groups of works. As part of the donation, there will be an exhibition for the first time, which examines both collections in terms of these references and leads to a direct comparison.
The title of the exhibition "Social Facades" is borrowed from a work by Isa Genzken from the DekaBank collection. He also stands for a variety of expressions of socio-political and social "facades", which are addressed in the work of the artists of both collections.
The exhibition at the MMK includes major works by Andy Hope, Ceris Wyn Evans, Sarah Morris, Franz West, Heimo Zobernig, Wilhelm Sasnal, Wolfgang Tillmans, Michael Pfrommer, Jonas Weichsel, Markus Sixay, Jeroen de Rijke / Willem de Rooij and Liam Gillick.
